Data Security Comes First

In today’s world of big data, changing technology, and hacker threats, security of information is on everyone’s mind—and for good reason.

In the news, you often hear of data breaches that jeopardize customer or patient privacy. Recently reported, a medical records transcription company suffered from a data breach due to mediocre security measures. The breach exposed the sensitive medical information of nearly 15,000 patients. While this may not be as large-scale as other recent data breaches, it is still significant to the hospital and to the patients whose private information may have been exposed.

Polaris Direct has taken every step to ensure that does not happen here by consistently remaining at the forefront of information security technology.

Polaris Direct Raises the Bar for Data Security

With the demand for variable data personalization increasing, it’s essential as a high-volume mailer to have multiple layers of data security. As a nationally acclaimed direct marketing and printing company with a customer base of Fortune 500 companies, we’re committed to creating a culture of security and trust.

In September, Polaris Direct’s production system and corporate location received certified status for information security by the Health Information Trust (HITRUST) Alliance. With the HITRUST CSF Certified Status, we meet key healthcare regulations and requirements for protecting and securing sensitive and private healthcare information.

“The HITRUST CSF has become the information protection framework for the health care industry,” says Ken Vander Wal, Chief Compliance Officer of HITRUST. “The CSF Assurance program is bringing a new level of effectiveness and efficiency to third-party assurance. The CSF Certification is now the benchmark that organizations required to safeguard PHI are measured against with regards to information protection.”

Polaris Direct is now part of an elite group of organizations worldwide that have earned this certification. By including federal and state regulations, standards and frameworks, and incorporating a risk-based approach, the HITRUST CSF helps organizations address these challenges through a comprehensive and flexible framework of prescriptive and scalable security controls.

“With the HITRUST CSF Certification, we not only meet, but we exceed our clients’ expectations for compliance in handling sensitive data,” says Judith Maloy, Director and CEO of Polaris Direct. “It shows we are committed to appropriately managing and mitigating risk.”

Protecting data is not new at Polaris Direct

We have always taken the security of our clients’ data seriously. While a HITRUST certified status is considered the latest in our framework, Polaris Direct is also certified by the International Organization for Security (ISOQAR).

Since 2012 we have consistently earned ISO 27001 certification for Data Management and Security. Through this certification process, we have taken extensive steps and met rigorous requirements to ensure data is secure—including sensitive financial and personal information.

Polaris Direct is also a HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) compliant company. HIPAA sets the standard for protecting sensitive patient data. Each of our staff members are trained in HIPAA compliancy to ensure all information trusted to us is protected.

Always Safe, Always Secure.

  1. HITRUST CSF certified status.
  2. ISO 27001 certified by ISOQAR.
  3. A HIPAA compliant company.
  4. SOC 2 Type II

These security measures—combined with trained, knowledgeable, and trusted data scientists on staff—are how Polaris Direct goes above and beyond in the world of big data. At Polaris Direct, we understand that the security of our clients’ information is of the utmost importance. That’s why data security has always been a top priority here, and it always will be.
